Customs officer shot in drive-by shooting
An officer
of the Customs and Trade Administration was shot yesterday afternoon in
another drive-by shooting, this time at Belfield, East Coast Demerara.
A police statement said that the Customs Officer, Anil
Ramsaroop, 28,
of Good Hope, Mahaica, was proceeding towards the city around 15:10 hours when
a car pulled up in front of him, forcing him to stop.
Reports stated that a gunman emerged from the car and discharged a round at
the officer.
Ramsaroop quickly reversed his car, managed to turn it around and sped off.
However, in the process of turning his vehicle around, two more shots were
fired, one of which hit Ramsaroop on the shoulder.
Ramsaroop managed to continue driving until he reached the Mahaica Police
Station where he reported the matter. He was subsequently escorted to the
Georgetown Hospital where he was treated and sent away. Kaieteur News
understands that the police were up to late yesterday trying to ascertain the
licence number of the vehicle in which the gunmen were traveling.
So far, no motive has been established for the attack on the Customs Officer,
who is reported to be a relative of a senior Guyana Defence Force Officer.
