Man fingered in Kaieteur News killings

Jumped bail for previous offence

After spending almost seven months on remand pending trial on a murder charge, Tagdhari Mohebir was yesterday freed by Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys.

The Magistrate allowed Mohebir to go home with his family after the Director of Public Prosecutions instructed that the murder charge be withdrawn.

Mohebir was charged for the murder of 34-year-old businessman Vishwanauth Sukhai, who was shot dead at around 01:30hrs on March 6 at Shell Road , Kitty.

SHOT DEAD: Vishwanauth Sukhai

It is alleged that Sukhai, called ‘Stallion', of Sandy Babb Street , Kitty, was shot while sitting in his vehicle outside a friend's house.

The bullet reportedly penetrated Sukhai's left arm and struck him in the region of the heart, killing him almost instantly.

The police had alleged that Mohebir, along with another man, shot the businessman during a robbery.

Reports at the time stated that Sukhai went out with some friends and was dropping home one of his colleagues when the incident occurred.

Police had said that Sukhai's friend was standing outside his car when Mohebir along with his alleged accomplice pounced upon them.

It was alleged that Mohebir's reported accomplice relieved the businessman's friend of cash and jewellery while Mohebir, who was reportedly armed, approached Sukhai.

It is alleged that Sukhai attempted to come out of his vehicle and Mohebir opened fire, fatally injuring the businessman.

Sukhai was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
