Bandits beat, chop barber
Twenty-six-year-old Ricky Jaikissoon, of Grove, East Bank Demerara was beaten and chopped by three bandits yesterday. The barber was on his way to buy a meal at a Chinese restaurant in the village at about 02:00hrs when three men attacked him, demanding cash and other valuables. The man said his pleas for mercy and declarations of not having any valuables were met with blows and a string of obscenities from his attackers. The man related he had been drinking with several friends earlier at a liquor restaurant in the village, and had left them in search of food when he was confronted by the three men. One of the men whipped out a cutlass and in trying to protect his face, Jaikissoon received a chop across the left palm that bared the bone. He also sustained several bruises and abrasions about the body. The man said he took off his Nike sneakers and his cap and offered it to the bandits. He said he made his escape while they were distracted. Jaikissoon was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was immediately admitted to the institution's Accident Ward.
