Bandits hit businessman $2M

Goed Fortuin, WBD businessman Rajindranauth Kalatnauth is counting his losses after two armed bandits snatched about $2M from him on Sunday night.

Reports from the police stated that Kalatnauth was parking his car when he was attacked around 21:30hrs.

A statement from Eve Leary stated that Kalatnauth and family had just returned home and he was parking his motor vehicle while the rest of the family had already entered the house.

While opening the gate to the yard, he was confronted by the men who held him at gunpoint and took away a briefcase containing the money. Kalatnauth was struck in his face with a gun butt during the incident.

No arrest was made but investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile bandits struck again for the second time in two days in the Cummings Lodge area. This time it was the Bahadur family of 3rd Field Sophia who were the latest victims.

A police release said that around 19:45hrs on Sunday night Hemwantie Bahadur, 45 years, her brother Davendra Bahadur, 22 years, daughter Deowantie Bahadur, 24 years, and mother Bhagmat, 70 years, a pensioner, were attacked at their home by two men armed with handguns and robbed of a quantity of jewellery.

During the robbery the bandits discharged several rounds at a number of dogs that had attacked them before and after the robbery.

According to the police, the victims were under a shed in the yard when the two men scaled the fence and held them at gunpoint.

They were taken into the house, where the jewellery was handed over, after Hemwantie and Deowantie were gun-butted about their bodies.

The men then escaped on foot. Hemwantie and Deowantie were treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and sent away.

The Police recovered two warheads and two spent shells at the scene.

Investigations are continuing.
