Overseas
Guyanese must take a hand
GUYANA
got its Independence from the British on May 26, 1966.
Both the
late President Cheddi Jagan and President Forbes Burnham promised Guyanese a
better Guyana with peace and progress for all.
In their
world the British was robbing Guiana of its resources. 2005 is here and our
history past and present is confirmed evidence that the political parties have
robbed Guyana and all Guyanese much more than the British.
They
talk of progress during their respective time in government. What was the
crime rate under the British rule? How many Guyanese who were educated in
Guyana were leaving the country?
What was
the standard of education compared to post Independence? And for that matter
the standard of living of Guyanese?
How can
the PNC be allowed to run for public office again after they rigged elections
for 28 years? The PPP/C has been in power since 1992 - what major changes has
it made?
How
about law and order, reducing crime to a minimum and extending the full force
of the law to those who break them, peace and security, hydro
power,
developing the manufacturing industry?
How
about exporting more than we import, exploring and opening the interior of our
country, moving the capital city to land above sea level and developing a
modern city?
What
about encouraging Guyanese living abroad to re-migrate and invest in our
country, give Guyanese abroad a fair chance to make a difference where their
knowledge and experience can change the country for the better?
Guyana
gets more revenue from Guyanese living abroad than its Gross Domestic Products
after cost of production is taken into account.
Guyana
is dependent on the Guyanese living abroad.
The time
has come for Guyanese living abroad to take an active part in changing Guyana
for the better.
As the
late U.S. President John F. Kennedy said, "Ask not what your country can
do for you, but what you can do for you country."
RAMCHARRAN PERSAUD
PNC's former Finance Minister under Desmond Hoyte, Carl Greenidge (left) and President Jagdeo (right).
Former illegal President, Desmond Hoyte and Finance Minister, Carl Greenidge, created History by making GUYANA the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere .
President Jagdeo likes to associate himself with criminals who destroyed beautiful Guyana.
