grocery store
reportedly robbed again
For the second time in four days, bandits have hit the Survival
grocery store’s Orange Walk outlet in broad daylight.
Sources said that two bandits, who pretended to be customers, fled
with a small sum of cash at around 12:45 hrs yesterday after holding
an employee at gunpoint.
According to reports, the sales clerk was in the store when two men
entered and asked to buy a quantity of cold Viva Water. The employee
said that they had none in stock and directed the men to another
store. The men walked away as if they were leaving, but then one of
them turned back and scaled the counter.

News understands that the man, who had a handgun,
forced the clerk to lie facedown on the ground.
He then relieved the salesman of an undisclosed sum of cash before
fleeing with his accomplice.
On Friday, two other bandits snatched some $80,000 representing the
day’s takings from the same outlet after holding two employees at
gunpoint and beating the proprietor’s wife.
The bandits had pretended that they were customers interested in
buying some crème liqueur.
Fish
vendor’s body
fished out of Demerara River
The body of a well-known Stabroek Market fish vendor was fished out
aback of the Stabroek Market wharf yesterday at around noon.
According to reports the dead man was positively identified as Monesh
Singh, of 110 West Ruimveldt, minutes after his body was
discovered by his brother Vishnu Singh.
Vishnu Singh said the last time he saw his brother alive was Monday
when he was seen drinking with a group of friends at a Stabroek Market
stall. Vishnu Singh became worried after his brother failed to
return home that night.
“Normally, when he drink, he does come home late but Monday night he
ain’t come home at all,” Vishnu Singh said.
The grieving brother added that at around noon yesterday, a friend
visited his home and informed him that his brother’s body was found
aback the market. Vishnu Singh said when he arrived on the scene, he
saw his brother lying on the shore.
No marks of violence were found on the body but investigations are
continuing.
