The theme of this years edition of the Indian Arrival Day magazine being produced by the Indo-Caribbean Cultural Council (ICC) is Indian artifacts in the Caribbean. Artifacts are old, broken or discarded objects such as musical instruments, cooking utensils, household items, ritual paraphernalia, old tools, etc. that have been used by past generations of people.
The study of these antique objects can serve as a powerful and unique method of unlocking hidden knowledge, and as a means of interpreting the past. The study of these objects can supplement language-based historical sources of information to explain and better understand the history of a people.
The magazine will carry illustrations and photographs of these recovered material remains, and describe and analyse them in relation to their uses. The objective of selecting this theme is to provide an alternative source of information to accurately re-construct the history of Indian immigrants in the Caribbean during indentureship (1838-1917).
ICC is inviting writers, illustrators and photographers to submit their work for publication in its Indian Arrival Day 2005 magazine.
This Indian heritage day, which commemorates the arrival of indentured labourers from India to Trinidad and Tobago (1845-1917), will be observed as a national holiday on Monday May 30th 2005.
The deadline for submission of original articles not exceeding 900 words is Sunday May 1st 2005.
Writers can e-mail their submissions to mahab@tstt.net.tt or post them in a hardcopy format to ICC, Swami Avenue, Don Miguel Road, San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies.
Submissions should contain a suggested title or caption and a short biography of the contributor(s).
Articles should be written for a general audience.
Writers will be paid for each item published.

The editor reserves the right to edit submissions for clarity, length and libel.

ICC is an educational non-profit organization dedicated to publishing a bi-annual magazine on issues, events and experiences affecting the lives of Hindus and Indians in the Caribbean.
Sincerely,
.
