Atrocities_on_Indo_Guyanese  A writer  to Stabroek news  dated  June 01, 2003, mentioned in a letter, that the East Indian population was subjected to crude discrimination and savage terror under certain governments of the past.

The reason for the present impasse lies in the “28 years”. Also in the knowledge that the PNC/R government would not agree to power-sharing at the present time if it was the PNC/R who were in power now.

Is it easy to forget? Can you say to the father whose son has been shot or whose daughter has been raped and her hair cut off “forget because we must unite as Guyanese”?
Nevertheless we will have to unite. This is not easy and therefore we need the assistance of a third party. We should accept this goodwill gesture from the British.

On the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the Indian Cultural Centre, the cultural wing of the Indian High Commission, an evening of dance and music `Parampara' was presented at the National Cultural Centre on Wednesday.

The programme comprised an invocation to Lord Ganesh, several dances, a skit, tabla playing and a piece fusing the tabla and the African drum.

In remarks at the cultural programme, Indian High Commissioner to Guyana Avinash Gupta said "India's culture lies at the heart of the Indian experience. This culture, which bloomed some thousand years ago, has given the people of India as well as the people of Indian origin, an identity and character which have helped them to retain their integrity through the passage of time and changes in human consciousness".

The high commissioner also disclosed that a cultural troupe from India is expected for annual May 5 Indian Immigration Day observances.
