IAC upset with police promotions
THE Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) is disappointed with the ethnic composition of the recent police promotions list.

In a statement, the group said it had made a presentation to the Disciplined Forces Commission calling for the “severe ethnic imbalance” in the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to be remedied as soon as possible.

The IAC said about five per cent of the four new Assistant Commissioners, seven Senior Superintendents, 16 Superintendents, 12 Deputy Superintendents, five Assistant Superintendents, 14 Assistant Superintendents on Probation and three Cadet Officers are of Indo-Guyanese origin.

It noted also that about seven per cent of the two new Chief Inspectors and 28 Inspectors are of Indo-Guyanese origin.

The group added that only about 11 per cent of the 36 new Sergeants, 70 Corporals and 33 Lance Corporals are of Indo-Guyanese origin.

The IAC said it was extremely concerned that such actions will further entrench the “ethnic imbalance” in the Police Force.

It is calling on the National Assembly to urgently deliberate the Disciplined Forces Commission report so that recommendations can be implemented with special emphasis on the section on ethnic imbalance in the Disciplined Forces so that this “historical and systematic problem” can be corrected.
