Gunmen
snatch $947,000 from Guyoil
Four bandits with handguns escaped with $947,000 at around
13:20hrs yesterday after holding up a supervisor and pump
attendant at the Guyoil filling station in Sheriff Street .
The heist appeared to be well-planned, since the bandits
struck just as the supervisor was counting off cash that was to
be taken to a city bank.
Police said that Ewan Obermuller, 29, was in a room on the
south-west side of the building when a mini-bus entered the
filling station.
Four men with handguns disembarked, entered Obermuller's room
and held him at gunpoint.
They then relieved him of $902,000 and snatched a further
$45,000 from a 23-year-old pump attendant.
Reports said that the men then ran into Subryanville, where
they scattered in different directions.
None of the bandits has been held.
The heist was the latest in the spate of daylight robberies
on business premises.
At around 10:00 hrs on Tuesday, two bandits with a handgun
snatched $55,000, two gold rings and a cellular phone from a
Banks DIH sales representative who was delivering stock at a
Ruimveldt business place.
Four hours later, three gunmen held up an AINLIM delivery
truck at Bourda Market.
They relieved a driver/salesman of his cellular phone,
$25,000 of his personal cash, and an undisclosed sum of money
which belonged to the company.
There have been over 40 armed robberies in the past four
weeks.
