Exporting the labourers from India

When slavery was abolished, many British Colonies suffered from acute labour shortages. To improve the labour conditions, British Colonizers recruited workers from China, Portugal, India and other countries. The most successful groups of migrants were the "East Indians" from India, often referred to in the Colonial Records as the "coolies"

My grandmother, Somwaria, came with SS 850BR 1902 with few sisters and they were indentured at Rampur, Blairmont Estate, Berbice. Guyana

Few years later, my grandfather, Edu, came with SS Sutlej 1916 and was indentured at Rose Hall Estate, Berbice. Guyana
